Page 8

The Velunan Fireamber had burned going down, but left a pleasant aftertaste, warmed the gut, and dispelled all lingering doubts that they were doing the right thing. When they were done, Yrag did not bid them good night or see them to the door, but merely picked up his knife and figurine, returned to his stool, and continued whittling. Tenser and Ehlissa saw themselves out, pausing only to turn down the gift of a cat from Yrag's housekeeper.

  1. I love that goblin. Is that a Trampesque version?

  2. It is indeed, as per my request, and of course Mort nailed it.

  3. I love little touches like that goblin. While some people hate homages I think they secure a work firmly in the genre it's supposed to belong to.

  4. I wonder what spell that is, that Tenser's imagining? ;)

  5. Tenser is imagining being so powerful that he doesn't need spells to work magic anymore. I like this page because a) it shows Tenser's ambition but is subtler than the dialog in the novella where Yrag chides Tenser on his ambition, and b) this serves the dual purpose of showing us the conflicting motivations of Tenser and Ehlissa.
